Yamagata Prefectural College of Ag (sister school to Morgan Community College) visited several
different Colorado farms one of which was May Farms for a lesson in wheat
farming. This is the closest to rice cultivation. They group of 34
students were able to get up close to John Deere equipment (displays
provided by Colorado Equipment) like combines and large tractors.
Sept 6th brought them to May Farms for an evening of American bbq of
brisket, chicken, baked beans, grilled corn, chips, cantaloupe. We grilled
the corn on the North patio so they could get the full experience. They
were shown how to husk the corn and then paint butter. They took their corn
on the cob and piled onto the hay wagon. They also planted a tree on the
farm in hopes that future students will be back to monitor the growth of the
tree. The Barbed Wire Connection provided the entertainment for the group
of 60 and they learned some American dances ie: Waltz and the Pretzel. At
the end of the evening they performed a traditional Japanese hat dance.
This group was so appreciative and eager to learn. One of the best groups we’ve ever hosted!
