Here’s a peek in to what some of us have been up to this week! We’re busy busy in the wheat field and probably will be for the next couple of weeks. We look forward to this time of year as the whole family gets involved helping to bring the crops in from the field! Joseph is riding with Grandpa (Mr. May) on the combine and is loving every minute.

May Farms is located just East of Denver on I-70. We have a state of the art event center located on a working farm in Eastern Colorado. This could be the destination for the wedding of your dreams or a perfect day trip for your family! Be sure to check out our upcoming events and activities. Please contact the office for more information.

As many of you may know we planted thousands of lavender plants 2 years ago along the hillside west of the pond. This lavender will not only be aesthetically pleasing but manage erosion along the hill. The lavender will take a few years to reach maturity but once the plants are mature we will be able to provide you several products made from the lavender which will be available in our country store. We’ve got plans to produce lavender honey, lavender tea, lavender lotion, lavender soap, lavender cream, lavender sachets, lavender spray, lavender truffles and the list goes on!

This weekend May Farms staff planted 1000 pepper plants! Everything from California Golden, Jalapeno, Sandia, Lady Bell and Anaheim peppers. These peppers were “started” indoors and so we have a good healthy plant already to go in the ground.

Here’s a few tips. Peppers like well drained soil and lots of sunshine. The great thing about peppers is the more you harvest them the more peppers they will produce. However, if you want to maximize the health benefits let them ripen to full maturity to benefit from all the Vitamin A & C that the pepper has to offer.

May Farms portable herbs at a restaurant near you!

May Farms will be delivering portable herb gardens which have been planted and cared for at May Farms, to two local restaurants who take pride in serving only the freshest of products to their customers. Supporting local farmers is important to our livelihood and our economy and we want to say THANK YOU!

Sporting News Grill on Tower Road and Fuel Café Downtown purchase fresh produce through out the growing season from May Farms. These portable herb gardens, which contain mint, sage, parsley, basil and cilantro allow chefs to cut what they need right from the plant without having to do the labor intensive work of planting and growing ahead of time. The portable gardens are easy to manage and care for once they are established which we do right here at our farm! We are currently caring for these gardens and should be able to deliver them soon!

Sporting News Grill and Fuel Café prepare many meals using fresh produce from May Farms including swiss chard, spinach, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, radishes, corn, cucumbers, beets, peppers, carrots, squash and more!

These produce items will all be available at May Farms’ Farmer’s Market this summer. Stay tuned for garden updates and produce availability.

Last week our good friend Quentin Smith brought over 20,000 honey bees to our farm! Sounds a little crazy right?…  but bees are important to us and all farmers! These bees will not only collect lavender honey from our lavender field but pollinate our flowers and crops to ensure promising yields.

Many of the foods and crops we rely on need or, at the very least, benefit from bee pollination. Here’s a list of some of those crops.
